The Brand Origins

Drawn by a common passion for craft distilling, in 2013 a group of friends came together to create a new kind of distillery, producing handcrafted, artisan spirits with uncompromising quality. In an extraordinary location on the Duke of Northumberland’s Albury Estate, a group of dilapidated farm buildings on the banks of the legendary & mystical Silent Pool has been transformed to become the home of the Silent Pool Distillers.

The Distillery

In keeping with the original vision for a sustainable business, a vintage wood-fired steam boiler was restored to power the hand-built copper still, created for Silent Pool Distillers by the Arnold Holstein Company in the Lake Constance area of Germany.


The distillery was completed with the arrival of the bespoke stainless steel tanking, sourced from the Vipara Valley in Slovenia. 

Locally Sourced Ingredients

They sourced local ingredients, exotic botanicals, and experimented with all kinds of recipes – sometimes failing, forever seeking, but always refusing to compromise on quality. Until finally, they created a gin of rare taste and beauty using over 20 botanicals in the distillation process and christening Silent Pool Gin after its place of birth. It’s popularity quickly spread from the local community to now amassing an enviable reputation across the world, winning an abundance of prestigious industry awards.

Silent Pool Gin

The first of the series, released in 2015. Silent Pool Gin captures the very essence of the Silent Pool and the surrounding Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty where the distillery is based. The location of our distillery is full of ingredients our expert Distillers used in the intricate recipe development process, allowing us to sustainably source the signature botanicals in our luxury English Gin. From Chamomile and Elderflower that grows in abundance around the Silent Pool to the roses and lavender that line our local village, Albury.

Symphony of Flavour

Silent Pool Gin is classic gin at heart featuring over 24 botanicals. Full-bodied and fresh with depth, clarity and above all else, flavour. It's a rich, clean, juniper-driven spirit with floral layers of lavender and chamomile. 

 Fresh notes of citrus and kaffir lime are grounded with the subtle sweetness of local honey, creating a well-balanced gin that's both traditional and refreshingly individual. Its inspiration is taken from the Silent Pool, an ancient spring nestled in the heart of the Surrey Hills that boasts crystal-clear water fed from a chalk aquifer. Its beauty inspired the bottle design and liquid within.

A Mosaic Approach

How do we create a gin with such harmony in its complex flavours? A rather mosaic approach. It begins with a Maceration, where rich oils from our base botanicals provide the backbone of the gin. Next, Basket Infusion. Where brighter aromatics are steam distilled providing the top notes. Next, our special Tea Infusion (what else would you expect from an English gin brand?). Delicate floral notes are soaked in a giant tea bag before being added to the still. Finally, everything is distilled together with a good helping of honey from our neighbouring beehive on the Albury Estate, added directly to the still.
